The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a value that is often used to indicate whether someone has a healthy or unhealthy weight. With the help of this useful calculator, you can easily calculate your BMI.

Body Mass Index (BMI) stands for the relation between a person’s body weight and body length. This means it also says something about your weight: does your weight match your height? Several tables are available with which you can discover whether you are dealing with overweight or underweight.

It is important to always use the BMI in context. A bodybuilder with a weight of 110 kilograms has the same BMI as an untrained person, but in the case of the bodybuilder he is not automatically overweight. It is therefore important that the personal situation is considered, and the numbers are not blindly relied upon.

Measure your body weight and height. Use the following calculation to calculate your BMI:

BMI = body weight / height² 

Example

Body weight is entered in kilograms. Height is entered in meters. An example follows below:

For someone who weighs 82 kilograms and is 1.96 meters, the BMI calculation is as follows:

82 / (1.96*1.96) = 21.5 BMI

Steps

  1. Weigh yourself on a scale and write down this number (in kilograms);
  2. Measure yourself and write down this number (in meters);
  3. Carry out the following calculation: BMI = body weight/ (body height * body height).
